School's Out for Summer

During the school year, parents rely on school breakfast and lunch programs. During the summer break, a limited number of schools offer meal programs. Local kids are at risk of food insecurity this summer.

The Challenges

  • Bite2Go is not distributing kids snack bags this summer.

  • Food costs have risen by 3% over the past year, concurrent with the rising cost of rent and gasoline.

  • Gas prices are so high that many parents are not able to drive kids to meal sites.

  • Kids may live too far away to walk to sites while their parents are working.

  • Some parents just don't take advantage of these summer meal programs.
