Those We Serve
Our recipients live in Spokane County where 40% of households live either below the Federal poverty line and/or are Asset Limited Income Restrained and Employed (ALICE).

20% of our kids are hungry.
14% of our adults don't have enough food.

Financial insecurity makes it very difficult to afford groceries. SNAP food assistance is often insufficent to cover a month's worth of food.
Mobility limitations and lack of transportation are barriers to accessing food for many who seek out our assistance.

Oh my, there are so many ways Spokane Helpers has been a path to good things, as I walk my path of life as a disabled 54 year old - that's not easy to do! The meal kits make it possible to eat properly, and it's a resource to cover what my tiny budget cannot. I am restricted to being at home most days. I seldom leave, so that knock at the door, smile and delivery make my day. Honestly, I wouldn't be ok without this service, so thank you for helping ease the life of a disabled older lady. Bless you all!.
At a time when my family really needed help with food, I joined the HELP YOURSELF group on Facebook. I found dozens and dozens of food banks around me! I was thrilled to be able to see a list of places that could help us, but also with the telephone numbers to those places and times and dates they were open. This was so helpful and convenient. I do work but still struggle with inflation like many Americans today. HELP YOURSELF has provided me with a means to get extra food and also fun free activities to do with my family. We are thankful!
I received a feminine hygiene package and a male hygiene package for my household, well as a roll of toilet paper. To be able to bathe with actual soap and shampoo instead of just plain hot water - feels so very nice. And to be able to brush my teeth and have some deodorant made me feel human again. And there’s nothing like having the the royal paper when you have to go potty or need to blow your nose. It is such a blessing to have these items!
